How I make money from home
So you're a beauty on a budget? If you’re anything like me, you love beauty products but HATE paying those ridiculous retail prices! Well you're in the right place, because I'm going to be sharing with you some of the ways how you can help your budget by getting your beauty products at wholesale prices AND even making some money!!!
Sooo... How many of you have seen a social media post similar to this..
"Hey! So our funds are pretty low lately, I'm looking to make some extra money, but something I can do from home! What jobs do you do from home? Oh and no MLM!"
Umm... insert eye roll here. All I ever want to post as an answer to this question is "If you're not open to MLM then I can't help you!"
This is actually a lie though. I can help you! There are lots of jobs that I can suggest that I have done successfully and made money from home. But each one requires either a skill or talent (like being crafty enough to open an Etsy shop) or months of schooling (like Real Estate) or a big startup cost (like a Spray Tanning business). I know, because these are all things I've done. But if you're looking for something where you can start making some money fairly quickly with little to no talent or startup cost ... Then you need to consider MLM!
Let's be honest. If you have been on social media the last few years, chances are you know AT LEAST one person selling for a direct sales/MLM business! Some of the most popular businesses sell makeup and skincare, jewelry, clothing, nail wraps, weight loss and health supplements, home decor, and so much more! There are so many different companies and products to choose from! If you’re not on board with the business model, because of what you’ve heard about it, or because you’ve been spammed or “Hey Girl” messaged, then I urge you to read this and have an open mind! Because NOT EVERYONE sells in such a spammy way, and those who do, usually don’t know better, so give them some grace. But more importantly in my opinion, the business model is NOT going anywhere! In fact, I have seen more and more major retailers utilize this business model by using social influencers BECAUSE it’s smart, it works, and if it’s the way of future! And if social influencing is good enough for Target, Amazon, or a Kardashian, then it’s good enough for me! So here a just a few of the reasons I love direct sales and why I think you might too!
1. Social Selling is so easy... you're already doing it!
Have you ever recommended a good movie to a friend? Posted about an amazing restaurant you've visited? How about share a great deal from a store you loved? Then you're social selling! Sure you're not getting paid for it, but you are "selling" the movie, the restaurant, the store or whatever else by simply sharing the things you love with your friends! Why not make money while doing it?
2. Discounts on your favorite products!
How would you like to get 20% off every time you buy your favorite brand of leggings? 30% off your favorite jewelry? And although it's rare, there are some companies like Farmasi that even offer 50% ALL of your makeup and skincare purchases! There are so many companies to choose from that no matter your interests, you can find one that's perfect for you to get a discount on products you love!
*Disclaimer... you do usually have to pay something to "join" and receive that discount, but that brings me to my next point...
3. Low start up fees to start your own business!!!
With direct sales, you are the boss! You essentially own your own business! And every business requires some money invested. In a traditional business, there's inventory, equipment, website and sometimes storefront fees! But with direct sales, the fees are considerably lower to become a rep and once paid you can make money from selling the product! Costs vary from company to company. Typically they cost $100's of dollars to start, buts some go as low as $20 (like with Farmasi), After you pay the fee, then you're able to receive a discount when you purchase product and a commission when you sell. But I do stress to make sure you are aware of any monthly fee's or monthly sales or purchase minimums you have to reach to keep your discount. In the past I have been with companies that offered 50% ONLY if you purchased $750 worth of product a month! (EEK!) And another that only offered a 25%-30% discount on overpriced product so it really wasn't worth it to me to stick with. But if you find a product you love, it's definitely worth it to looking in to! I'm lucky to have found a company that currently has no monthly fees or sales minimums to keep my discount, just one minimum purchase every 6 months of any price item by me or a customer! AND 50% off EVERY purchase as soon as you sign up! And it really helps that the makeup is affordable too!
4. Make money working in your own time from wherever you want!
Direct sales is perfect for people to make an extra income within any lifestyle! You are your own boss, and you can work whenever you want! Whether you're busy with your full time job, or are a stay home mom struggling to find a minute to yourself, you can make money sharing what you love in your own time! But working wherever you want... will depend on the kind of business you choose. Some work from home businesses do require stock, which requires you to plan a day to sort, package and mail your products to your customers. Some businesses like clothing and jewelry seem to have the best success with online sales which requires you to schedule time to showcase the merchandise. But in general, most every MLM company has a website that is personalized to you that you can share with your customers where they can order directly from your site! The product is then packaged and shipped directly from the company and depending on your compensation plan, you will make money from that sale!
At Farmasi, I make 50% of every sale from my website and I'm not required to carry any stock! Currently there are no monthly fees required for them to provide my personalized website! But as I mentioned before, make sure you are responsible for understanding the companies fees and minimums associated with websites and sales commissions. And also that you know what stock requirements there are (if any) and if this is something that would work well with your lifestyle.
5. Confidence not required... BUT don't be surprised if you find it!
We all know, putting yourself out there is hard. And putting yourself out there on social media is even harder! Whether you're someone just starting, or seasoned in sales, nobody wants to feel like they're being judged. But the honest truth... you ARE being judged! But if you love a product enough or truly believe in the opportunity, you just stop caring! That's called confidence! Chances are, you joined under someone you can relate too and you are a part of a team of people. Some of these people are having great success with their businesses! If you're part of an AMAZING team (like the one I'm on) there will be training, product info, and a team of people who will celebrate your wins, no matter how big or how small, and help you succeed by sharing what's working for them. You will find it's trial and error finding what works for you and your business, but if you're putting yourself out there, being consistent and taking the time to better yourself and learn... you will gain so much more than a paycheck! But some of the most important things you'll gain are friendships, knowledge, and confidence in yourself!
6. Opportunity to make as much as you want!
So first I have to put very important disclaimer! I do NOT guarantee you will ever make a cent! In fact, I have been involved in a few companies where I (willingly) spent more than I made! BUT I truly believe the opportunity to make amazing money is there! Even when I was in between companies and didn't have anything to sell, I believed in this business model. Why? Because I've seen very many women become very successful in this business! I know women who have quit their day jobs and others who have retired their husbands! That's serious full time income kind of success. No, it doesn't happen for everyone, and no, it isn't a get rich quick thing. And while it is easy to post about the things you love, sometimes it takes time, and effort, and consistency to show people you really love the product and aren't just trying to make a quick buck! But anyone, and I do mean ANYONE, can have success with this business model if they want it and can figure out what works for them!
And I believe it is the way of the future... Major retailers nationwide are closing because everyone is shopping online! People click on ads they come across on social media and celebrities have affiliate links where they get paid EVERY TIME you shop a link they drop! If you're using social media to share things you love with friends, so it's just smart to get paid for it. Sales is a business that will always be thriving as long as you're selling something someone wants. Things like clothing, health & wellness, and beauty are always going be in demand. The beauty industry is a $500 BILLION (yes i said billion, with a B!) business and it's growing everyday, why not try to get a little piece of it?
BUT as with anything… there’s good and bad
So while I could probably go on about all of the positives I have found in my years in this business model! And as strongly as I love this business, there are others who can tell you why they don't love it. Some had bad experiences with people in this business, either as a customer or a consultant. Some had bad experiences with certain companies, and others just are forming their opinions based on what they’ve heard, whether it’s true or not. I will admit as much as I love direct sales, IT ISN’T PERFECT! Every company is run differently and every person runs their businesses differently! Every company has different discounts, comp plans and minimums. It is up to you to decide which company is going to be the one that could work for you as well as which team is a good fit for you! But the truth is, love it or hate it it DOES WORK and has changed the lives of many men and women, so WHY NOT YOU?! Whether you're looking to just get a discount, find some new friends (and a little bit of confidence), make a little extra money or make a full time income, the possibility is there with direct sales!
